As Lent progresses and Easter draws closer, storefronts throughout Italy fill with brightly wrapped and multi-colored chocolates and candies. If you've given up sweets for Lent, you're in real trouble. Luckily, I gave up soda instead.
We saw lots of these treats walking around Florence the week before Easter. Instead of succumbing to those gigantic eggs, we opted instead for some amazing gelato from Vivoli, the (quite justifiably) famous gelateria in Florence. I went for the pera con caramello and cioccolatto fondente (pear with caramel and chocolate). The chocolate was luscious and flavorful but the pear really stood out. The caramel added a tiny bit of saltiness and it was amazing! Definitely one of the top gelatos we've had in Italy.
