But (and there's always a but)
While on vacation, I rediscovered my love of reading. REALLY reading. Like, letting myself get so into a book that I prop it up against my dinner plate - not just a chapter or two before bed. In the spirit of 2009, I've decided to challenge myself. Instead of just saying "I will read more", I'm now saying "I will read 50 books in 2009". While I'd initially wanted to go for 100 (it just sounds better), I realized that
a) I have a job
b) "Lost" is starting up again this month
c) I can't bear to lose "Gossip Girl", "Medium", or "Heroes" and seriously doubt that, with these shows on the air, I can commit to two books a week. I am a fast reader though and I can commit to one.
So, not that anyone has asked for book recommendations (nor am I convinced that anyone beyond my immediate family and a few cousins are reading this) but I'm posting my book list along the sidebar of this page. It'll help me stay accountable to my goal and keep me motivated. The trade off is that I'll be admitting what I read. And I don't always read the most intellectual of books. So when you see the "Twilight" saga appear or the occasional chick-lit novel, bear with me and try not to make too much fun.
Here's what I've got lined up on my nightstand right now. Recommendations are encouraged!

I just finished "The Gum Thief" by Douglas Coupland and am currently reading "Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories" by Arthur Conan Doyle and "Slam" by Nick Hornby. All three have been (or were) good. I think you may have to like Coupland before you would really like "The Gum Thief". (sorry about not underlining titles, but I can't figure out how to do it)
Definitely read the Twilight books...I'm OBSESSED! I can definitely recommend tons of girly reads too!
a few of my all-time favs:

the big stone gap series (by adriana trigiani)
