A Lazy Saturday in Milano

Yesterday, our little family took a stroll around our new city. We started at our place, walked down to La Scala, through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, past the Duomo, onto the Via Torino (where all the shops began the annual sales), then circled back to the Duomo for a drink.

This is the gelateria near our apartment: It's called 'Bianco Latte' (White Milk) and it's pretty amazing. I have shown amazing restraint by only going once per week since we've been here. One of these days, I'll take a picture of the cute interior and alllllll the flavors of gelato. My favorites here are the stracciatella (vanilla with flecks of chocolate) and chocolate arancia (chocolate-orange).

We then headed down to La Scala, the famous Italian opera house. It was recently renovated but we didn't get a chance to go inside. Instead we just hung out in the Piazza della Scala, across the street. The statue behind the "amor" sign is of Leonardo Da Vinci. The building behind both is Milan's City Hall - Palazzo Marino.

The piazza opens up to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. It's filled with designer shops and over-priced restaurants. We plan on spending an evening in one of those restaurants but everyone has advised us to wait until this winter, when the Christmas decorations go up at the Galleria.

And, at last, we sat down at a cafe in front of the Duomo to enjoy a glass of red wine and spumante (sparkling white wine).
