Things have been a little busy over here. Two weeks ago, I gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl. Our little one acts like a bird (pecks her mouth like a woodpecker, quiets down like a parakeet when her car seat is covered), so I think I'll call her Birdie on here.
Since her birth, we've been busy with lots of 'firsts'. First tears (mine and her's), first smiles (I know, I know, they're really just gas at this point), first blown-out diapers, first fears (oh so many on mommy's part), and first baths.
And first lucha libre fighting competition!
Oops. Scratch that! I don't think they let babies into Mexican wrestling competitions, no matter how tough they are. However, we thought she looked like a mini lucha libre fighter with her phototherapy mask on. Birdie was born after a loooooong labor that ended in C-section and had a high level of jaundice, requiring that time under the phototherapy lights. Mom and Dad were not happy - we wanted to hold her and take care of her - but we're glad she's totally healthy now. Breastfeeding hasn't been easy (how can something so natural be so hard????) but we're starting to get the hang of it and Birdie is almost back to her birth weight.
In just two weeks, I can't believe how much she's grown. She can stretch out her scrunched up legs and look taller. Her eyelashes keep growing and they'll be nice and long like her dad's. Her blue eyes are already fading into gray (we think they'll end up brown) but we're happy that she's spending more time awake so we can look into them. She's got such a sweet temperament and LOVES spending time with daddy. He went back to work today, after two weeks off, and we're excited to welcome him home later. He is quite the baby-whisperer and Birdie will definitely end up a daddy's girl!
